link same floodgate to same lever multiple times?
« on: December 20, 2006, 01:35:00 am »

so in 22.121.23b i started a new fort and linked up a floodgate to a lever.  then i tried linking a second floodgate to the same lever, and noticed that the first one shows up as a possible option of floodgates that i could link to.

im certain it didnt used to behave this way.

It did.

I'm not really sure what else to say.

no, it really didnt.  floodgates have always (for the last several versions, anyway) been only linkable to the same lever once.  sure you could link the same floodgate to MULTIPLE levers, but thats not what i was trying to say.

and now it isnt doing it on the second floodgate in the same fort, so since i cant reproduce it, i guess nevermind.  I'll watch for it to crop up again, and try to isolate the save.

It will keep showing the floodgate as an option until the job that links the floodgate to the lever is done.  Once the job is done, the floodgate will no longer be an option in that lever's menu.

its probably related to that. in this case, the job was off the Lever's job-list, and the full number of mechanisms were present with the tag on both the lever and the floodgate.

The floodgate in question was blocked off by the time i noticed it, but its possible a mechanic still had to wander by the lever and do some wrenching to complete the job.  In that case, i think the job SHOULD have been marked as "active" on the lever's list, rather than removed as complete.

I can mess around with this.  There should be some indicator as to what's linked to what, anyway, as has been suggested before, to make it easier to diagnose these things.

I realize this is and old thread, but this still is happening and I don't think it needs a new thread.
Right now(40d) this still works. Anything can be queued to a lever multiple times until the linking is actually complete. However, instead of just linking it once of canceling excess linking tasks, you can still continue linking until all the queued tasks for that particular object are linked. I just linked a bridge and it now has 3 mechanisms. Despite the excess links, the behavior of the bridge and lever doesn't change, it's just a waste of mechanisms.

The bolding was probably added because of the forum move.  There's also an extra paragraph marker in there.  Though I have no idea what the original looked like...  ah, yes I do.  A B in square brackets is the building marker on a building's inventory menu (you probably had said (B) tag, with square brackets), but it is also the bold operation in the new forum.  I guess the old forum didn't use it or something.

I've noted down this bug again.  I'm not sure what happened with the original report as it was a long, long time ago, perhaps before the formal bug list existed.
