Wasn't there some single player mod based on the work of H. P. Lovecraft?
There was some Cthulu mod for HL1. Not sure about HL2.

Not sure if it's still active, but The Hidden:Source was a mod that made me shit my pants. Moreso than any other game, even Silent Hill, because it was unscripted so you had no idea when death would come clawing at your face or stabbing you in the back or blowing you to shreds...

Hey about the mods, do they need half life 2 to run? Cause a friend of mine told me that you can download the source sdk or something and mods will work. Confirmation, anyone?

You need a game that has uses the same engine. I recommend Portal.

The Half Life 2 mod involving Cthulhu would be "The Intern". Don't be so anxious about it, as it isn't a shooter mod. More like a dialogue-adventure, or so I've heard.

Refreshing change, really. I don't really like any of those multiplayer shooters.

Might as well get the Orange Box. Its (relatively) cheap and comes with a whole bunch of games, including portal.

Neotokyo is a great game. Imagine CS:S crossed with Dystopia. And set in japan, with invisibility and compasses.

There was an awesome mod called Vampire Slayer for HL1 but I don't know if they made and HL2 version. The vampire team had no weapons except 1-hit-kill claws, but were fast, silent and could jump really far. You had to shoot them enough to knock them down and then stake them.
