I know it sounds stupid but I actually had sort of a crush on Durandal... I guess I sorta liked the little dominating relationship he had with the player.

I certainly thought the writing in Durandal was very dwarfy. I lol'd at the part where durandal mentions how the enemy have designed suicide bomber drones that look like humans, but they all wear engineer's uniforms so now engineers walk around naked... heh...

Very dwarfy.

I remember playing doom when I was young and getting my arse handed to me while playing it when on the lower difficulties

I got back into a few years ago with the collectors edition box (Doom1,2, Ultimate and the Plutonium and TNT packs) and played through it all on Nightmare.

Pure. Gaming. Bliss.

Heh, I used to play Doom with my dad back in the old days when it was the hot new thing for cube dwellers to substitute for work.  He'd prop little ol' me on his lap and then go around shredding demons with the shotgun while I watched intently.

My mom would drop in now and again to cast worried glances our way.  I was what, five?

Now, I know Doom 3 is an unpopular subject, but since this is a topic on the whole series, I felt I might as well bring it up.

Now, Doom 3 is the only Doom game I officially own (my dad's CD of the original got lost somewhere...  *Sniff*), and I'll admit it's not the greatest game I've ever played.  But I won't say I didn't get any entertainment out of it.  Particularly once I discovered DungeonDoom, the total conversion mod that turns Doom 3 into a Roguelike FPSRPG.

And although I've never tried it, I wondered if it might be possible to do the "berserk challenge" from DoomRL in Doom 3.  Simply start the game, cheat to give yourself the chainsaw and the soul cube, and use only those two weapons.

The only major problem I can think of would be the guardian battle, but if the guardian's energy globe is affected by the soul cube you might just be able to pull it off.

DungeonDoom is tons of fun, but be careful.  I remember fighting my way all the way down to the penultimate dungeon level when I was stopped by a nasty bug.  I had received a quest to hunt down a "hellhound" which would appear on that level.  However, there was some sort of missing data with the hellhound, so every time I encountered it the game would crash.  And since I had a quest to kill it, it would always, with %100 certainty, be waiting just outside the starting zone.

Level 49 of 50.  All of it wasted.  Damn I was pissed.
