Human siege help.
« on: July 12, 2009, 03:39:32 pm »

They sent bowmen. They've killed one champion already. They're hanging out just outside of my drawbridge waiting to shoot people.

EDIT:
I have about 50 dorfs, with a military of 7 champions, who are nearly legendary, with copper, iron, and some steel arms and armour.
And I have an elven caravan on-site to provide arrow fodder.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Throw kittens to them until they run out of arrows.

Playing a cheesemaker in an average Fortress 'round here would be. Freaking. Terrifying.

Hmm. I could let the elven caravan out, that might work.

But I think they've got more arrows than that.

Huddle inside until they go away. Alternately, if they aren't lead by an elite bowman or crossbowman, charge them with a swarm of double-layer armor champions.

They are led by one, sadly. And they're on horses.

It's over a pit, and I want to keep the bodies.

Skull totems and so forth.

You're stuck. Better luck next season. That elite can kill 4 champions or so, and his allies might get lucky a few times.

Well if you've got a long narrow entrance...

1. Balista at the end of the hall.
2. Fortification in front of balista.
3. Wait for them to enter.
4. Fire.

It's known to wreck quite a few demons with one shot.

Hokay. So. I let the elves out, then stormed out after them to break up the archers.

Casualties:
The entire elven caravan.
Three war dogs.
Two champions.
Every last fucking human, and the horses they rode in on.

for next time, make sure your champs have shields and a high shield skill - they get v good at blocking arrows.
