You know what is fun? Having at least 50 dwarfes storing wood to stockpile like 1000 tiles away while caravan trying to get into your fortress and while pumping water out of the river with 5 or more pumps.
Worked for me if you want to lower your FPS.

The main problem is that the pathfinding algorithm is 'flooding' much of the outside. I've watched my game freeze for a noticeable period (0.2-0.4 seconds) during frames which include a dorf searching for a path between a log and my fort.

I'm still looking into ways to help speed up that hang time, but I've found that making straight roads and designating them as high traffic tends to help a bit.
