The message for no migrants due to population-cap is "The fortress attracted no migrants this season."  It may be the same as the message for just not having enough wealth to get more migrants.

The one season before I hit the population cap the duke and tax collector died in a tragic masonry accident.  I got the "too nervous" message the next season, the only time ever.

I think it might have to do with the death of a noble, I got the same message after I had turned my tax collector's holdings into a large flood chamber.

Hey, I would have let him live, but he kept mandating LARGE GEMS. The next one came and mandated something before he even lost the migrant status. So he got drowned too.

Plus, I turned the drainage area into a tower cap farm  :D

Noble deaths do curtail immigration quite rapidly.

It's a touch annoying, but not worth putting up with the bastards for. So, a totally tragic incident every year, with the hammerer and tax collector somehow managing to fall into the magma pipe.
And the duke and the duchess consort, after my workable duke was shot while throwing a goblin into magma, and his wife was locked in a bedroom by 'mistake'.

A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

My Duke's favorite item happens to be beds, and it seems his second favorite is giant axe blades, so usually his mandates aren't enough to bug me.

His Consort like Ballista parts, which aren't a big deal as another ballista doesn't hurt. However, she also likes Steel, and with no flux on my map that means someone usually gets jailed.

The Mayor is starting to piss me off though. He keeps mandating Adamantine items, and my map has none. Unfortunately, he's legendary in multiple things and one of my best dwarves, and is friends with the majority of the population, so all I can do is hope he gets voted out :(

My tax collector keeps demanding glass, and my map doesn't have sand.  It might be time to have him assess the value of the bottomless pit  ;D

I put this fort on pause to try out the Dwarf Dream map, but due to low FPS I am back.

I was looking at my graveyard and perhaps I missed the fact that my captain of the guard died.  Perhaps that is the reason why.  I replaced the captain.... and that one just died too...  "Bleed to death"

Yup, that'd do it. One dead noble can nuke immigration.

I am still not sure.  Because these captains dieing are new to me, I suspect this is a recent occurrence.  I am at 190 dwarfs (33 children) with 2.5 million wealth created, it is mid-winter so not much longer until another migrant spawn.  Hopefully I will not reach 200 before then and have a chance to double check.

16th day of spring on 7th year and goblin local leader is leading a siege.  I guess I am very close to a goblin civilization because this is my first siege.  I have only been ambushed by two small groups before this too.  The leader hit one of my few stone traps and stumbled to his death.
