External Tree Growing Area
« on: June 26, 2009, 10:37:25 am »

Due to lack of trees in the immediate area, I'm making my own external tree farm.

I've marked out a piece of land (with obsidian ground) and walled around it, put a few floodgates so i can drain it whenever I want, and I'm slowly filling it up.

All the water is playing havoc on my FPS, so the question pretty much is -

1) What's the best way to ensure trees grow on there?
2) If I leave it always at 7/7 water, will trees grow there?
3) How often do I have to water it?

Aboveground tree growth depends on the biome.  If trees don't grow there dry, then they won't grow there irrigated.

1) Get it muddy, then remove all the shrubs. Shrubs and trees compete for the water supply, so if you want trees you have to get rid of shrubs.
2) Don't think so. Let it drain out.
3) If this were underground, you'd only have to water it once. Aboveground, you might need to water it more, but I don't know. Basically if you check the terrain and it says "obsidian" instead of "muddy obsidian" or "grass" or something like that, then you'll need to water it again.
