Orthoclase question - please help a noob
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:44:21 pm »

Sorry, noob here - but i really have crawled all over looking for an answer to this to no avail; I am pretty new to the game (love it) so I think I'm doing something wrong.

I cannot get my dwarves to do ANYTHING with this stone. It does not appear as an option to build any constructions, masons cruise right past it when i set them to build blocks. Now, i recognize this is a pretty worthless stone so I'm mostly dumping it but right now it's the only yellow stone i have and i want to make use of color coding for levers, and, well...it seems like I am missing something. This stone doesn't appear in the Stone (z) menu.

Actually, it's worse than that - the one thing they ARE able to do with this stone is stack it in an economic stone stockpile. Great. No. Not great.

What am I doing wrong, or is this a bug?

Let me make several assumptions to demonstrate my masterful knowledge of the game as well as answering gameplay questions.

You are using the Mayday tileset, which contains the economic stone mod, which makes all stone economic.

You have not checked closely on the economic stone screen, or you have not realized you can scroll on that screen.

If it's not the two above, I have made a fool of myself, which seems like a fair trade off for my arrogant behavior in this post.

Did you: dump the stone?  If so, let it get to the dump and reclaim.
Did you: make sure the Dwarves have direct access to it?
Did you: look harder in the Stone menu?  It can be hard to navigate (I personally feel it should have a "search" option like the Legends mode does)

Huzzah !

XTREME dwarven knowage !

In fact I am using Mayday. +10
In fact I didn't realize the Stone (z) list manually scrolled, in a very convenient non-alphabetic list, might i add. +10
In fact the stone in question was marked Red, which i understand is reserved, causing the little stunty's to ignore it in craftmaking and such. +10

It's in order of stone type, if that helps: all the layer stones are first, sorted by what kind of layer they are, then all the ores, and so on.

Go colour coding!

I love color-coding.  I once built a ridiculously large (in x-y terms) tower with color-coded sections.

The save broke somehow though, so I can't put it on DFMA though :'(
