This has probably happened to people before
« on: June 20, 2009, 03:46:51 pm »

An elf caravan unloaded their wares in my trade depot. I had been busy in the past year (trying to keep my population from starving to death) so I didn't have anything to trade. I was just going to ignore them.

After they were done, they were immediately wiped out by a goblin ambush. (Interesting how the game alerted me when they got ambushed)

Awesome. free stuff.  ;)

Nope.
Mostly because I reguarly kill the elves MYSELF.

A tendon in the skull has been torn!
The Raven has been knocked unconcious!

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Never elves, but I've seen dwarven caravans get wiped out by ambushes.

I don't see any reason they couldn't be. What would happen if they breached the HFS?
Horrors! Annoying relatives in the deep!

On my most recent fort the first caravan got wiped out by skeletal muskoxen and I never even got a message that they had arrived...  The only reason I noticed at all was when I started getting spam that 'Urist McHauler cancelled store item in stockpile, interrupted by skeletal muskox', so I went to see what they were trying to grab and there was a pile of bodies and goods and a few muskoxen around.  The dead from the caravan did not even appear on my unit list as deceased, so this may have been a bug.  I also never got a liason either...

Just try it! Its not like you die IRL if Urist McMiner falls into magma.

Never lost a caravan to an ambush.  On more than a couple occasions(especially when I was first learning) I've seen caravan guards completely whip out ambushes.  Now THOSE guys are ruthless.  I'd hate to fight them.

Now sieges on the other hand...they tend to bring a stronger force for those...caravans occasionally struggle, though I've still never lost one to that either.

Only thing the caravans have ever had a hard time with was me...I don't usually kill them, but that's just because there's some handy bugs that are nice to exploit before you have the chance to turn the place into a 'horrible tragedy'.

In my current fort, I had a caravan arrive mere moments before the siege.  A single squad of goblins virtually annihilated the caravan because the battle turned into a series of 16v1 beatdowns as the traders and guards came in piecemeal.
