Dwarven Pretzels
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:23:05 pm »

Lye, as we all know, is used in soapmaking and for potash, but it is also used for heavy-duty plumbing and for making really crisp pretzel crusts.

I propose a dwarven pretzel recipe, involving dwarven flour and lye.

In the meantime, I lament the fact that no modern hardware stocks lye. They all stock Drano / whatever pipe cleaners instead. I am using baking soda for pretzels crusts at the moment. :P

Talking about lye as an ingredient, I'm looking forward to mod in the recipe for lutefisk.

Presumably eventually the cooking system will get overhauled and it'll be possible to have specific recipes like this.

Step 1: coat in caustic substance.
Step 2: Store.
Step 3: Let rot in water for 3 days.
Step 4: Attempt to eat.

I imagine Dwarven cooking to be in the Discworld vein.

I agree with this, even if its just to have lye do something other then just soap making.

Though it will require a proper cooking system first. Right now it just takes some random cookable items and mixes them into a random dish, with the name of the first ingredient. So you get things like 'dwarven beer biscuits' made of 'minced dwarven beer' and 'minced dwarven beer'. Thats just weird...

But, im pretty sure fixing it is somewhere on the dev list. Though I doubt it will be a priority.

Like: "Delicious sausage-inna-bun! you'll never want to eat anything else" ? ;D
But yeah new recipes and "creative" ingredients would be great. And maybe even different foods per civ. Stone muffins for a magma man civ?

It's forged, rather than baked. ::)

I'm curious what the barely conscious ai wrote about.
Well that went better than expected.  He went nuts and punched a rabbit to death, then the dogs and the whole dining hall ripped him to shreds.
