THEY ARE A PORTAL TO DIFFERENT WORLDS!
  As you may know, a drawbridge may be capable to send things into to our dimension, Glowing Pits may be able to send you to different dimensions and planes!
  I came across that theory when I was looking at the Dwarven King Is An... thread, for example, where does that gold that somehow appears on wolves when you kill them in an RPG? Well some dwarf must have dropped coins in the pit and the appeared in the wolfs body or an adventurer had thrown some coins at a wolf and they got stuck in the body, which may have fell into the the pits.
  Why do you think they are bottomless? Because, where the ground should be, there is a portal!
