I wish to request a place on the waiting list.
My character:
Name: Heinrich
Social class: Noble
Age & Occupation: 25 year old knight (I think you can do this if you go noble heir first) max strength and endurance so I will live for as long as possible
Skills: Maxed edged weapons, stealth and streetwise. Spend the rest of the points however you like.

Yup, that's possible.  Actually, the noble Knight we already have went Noble Heir, Knight, Knight.

Huh...I might want to get in on this some time.  It's certainly inspired me to boot up my copy.  I'll run up a character later, I was thinking I'll do my usual nerd or merchant style characters.

Though, you know what was kinda odd/creepy?  I was creating characters, and one of the random names I got was "Beatrix Steiner".
This game was shipping BeatrixXSteiner about eight years before Final Fantasy IX was released.

EDIT:
I'm starting to remember why I stopped playing.  I get horribly lost.

The dwarven economy is just a stand-in, from what I understand. As it is, it represents an actual economic system about as well as poison ivy represents a salad.

Beatrix Steiner is probably a nod to Mechwarrior, or one of the novels.

You gotta write down every quest or rumor.  That stinks, but the game kinda predates a memo-system.

Alchemists.  They're great starting characters.  Just remember, the potions are "Use or lose".  Course, sell the lousy ones for armor or weapons.

As an additional character, anyone physically fit would be ok.  Usually, you can inherit armor/weapons from the dead...he he he.

Ok, Double post cause this is an UPDATE!  WHOOT!

Members request finding work...so the team visits the Bishop of Bamburg for an audience...

Okenido recalls a saint that could help with getting an audience...then recalls he's not virtuous enough for this saint...FOR SHAME!

Without Okenido's help, the party isn't persuasive and/or reputable to obtain an audience, and is forced to wait until nightfall in vain...

The party takes to the back streets to avoid the patrols enforcing the cirfew (no being out after nightfall, you naughty adventurers!).  But sometimes bad things lurk in the back alleys at night!

The party gets attacked on the way to the inn!  Okenido prepares to shoot the bandits with his crossbow...

...only to realize the party forgot to buy bolts (not included with the initial equipment).  Fortunately, not everyone is useless at range...

Yay!  That alchemist deals a minor, glancing blow on the thiefs!  As the ruffians close, the party gangs up and eliminates one bandit quickly.  As most of the party engages the second thug, Gregori bravely approaches and parries the blows of an approaching bandit, so Floirt doesn't get distracted (and because everyone else just won't tolerate a single knife throw as Gregori's only contribution!).

Three-on-one quickly eliminates the bandit, and they proceed to the final, fleeing bandit.  That is, until Gregori screams like a little girl, and Dwarmin goes over to BASH SOME HEADS!

Eventually, the fight is over, and the party victoriously divides the spoils, with Okenido claiming a battered leather armor and falchion, Dwarmin grabbing leather armor, Gregori reclaiming his throwing knife, along with leather and falchion, and our leader Floirt hauling the rest for resale.

It's happy to see the public enjoying our exploits!  The team glows in the presence of the crowd, before sneaking off to heal at the inn.

At the inn, the injured members regain strength, while the unhurt leader makes swords for cash.

The party can also earn one grochen net(it's a silver coin, or 12 pfennigs) per day, if everyone works common jobs.  So, the party worked a couple days until they had 12 grochen.  They've basically broke even without selling the excess gear.

I should mention that serving the city leaders only enhances local rep (and fame), and doesn't earn money, best as I can tell.

Ah, no. They also give a fuckton of cash. Especially if you siege/assassinate a raubritter.

Last time I'd done that, I was the Local hero of the town, and I had like 50 florins, maybe more. And the Inn was nearly free anyways.

One time, I got executed in a town I'd stumbled over, because I got found lurking around at night three times. Shame on me.

Actually, the ruler of the city only give you a hefty reputation bonus.
For an example, See Previous Darklands LP.

However, you will frequently get offered the "Kill Raubritter" task from the various merchants should the town need this service.  A single "Kill Raubritter" task can come from multiple sources, leading to real paydirt once you kill one, provided you chatted up all the merchants first.

Yup, if the town guards catch you lurking about at night, you gotta pay the fine, or they'll execute you should they catch you.  Justice is harsh in 1400's Germany.

Double post.  Must be update time!

The party sells it's loot, and proceeds to ask all the merchants if they have work...and fail.  Ouch.  Failure pics not show to spare the team's feelings.

Okenido mentions visiting the local physician, so he can better serve the party...

Hm, that was unexpected....But the party continues searching for gear they can afford, and eventually purchases some padded cloth armor to protect the arms and legs of those not fortunate enough to start with chainmail extremity armor(feel free to glare at Floirt the Tank everyone).

It's dark after shopping.  How do I know?

Anyways, the team consider running, then realize they'll probably fail, so instead pay the 2 grochen fee instead of becoming criminals.  Smart move.

As they continue back to the inn, they run into some old friends...

The party wins, but is wounded because they forgot to equip their new leg and arm armor...Anyways, they get some thanks...

Not as satisfying as the last public congrats, but ok.  So, they continue back to the inn, and get attacked again.  Unfortunately, Gregori gets beaten to within one strength point!  One more penetrating hit, and he's dead!

Thankfully, Okenido knows a saint that can help...

It works!  Gregori's strength is raised to 10!  (At this time, I'd like to apologize to Archangel and Wild Goose for saving a party member and denying them entrance into the LP...)  The saint also increased Gergori's skill with his rapier, and the team quickly does in the foes.  Hm, how will the townfolk thank the party now?

Ingrates.  When are we gonna get thanked by the young, busty lasses?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The party heals up at the inn, while Okenido prays for divine favor (which is spent for saint calls).  They go off to sell their loot, and buy new weapons, when they finally get shangheid by the exotic goods merchant...

Interesting...Dwarmin drools at the sight of more money than he's seen in his whole life...COMBINED!

Now the only question is WHEN!

Speaking of choices, Saint EuchreJack warns the party that a new saint should be acquired from the monastery in Bamberg (where the party is now).  This divine sage even discloses which saints are on the table...

Here's a bit about the saints:
St. Cosmas: Sept. 26; Str, End, Per, Heal; learn of St. Damian (whom Floirt is also qualified to pray to)
St. Devota: Jan. 17; Str, End, Chr; improves Reputation in distant lands; helps to escape or withstand torture
St. Dympha: May 15; Agl, Stlh, Heal, End; sometimes routs satanic enemies
St. Raphel: Virtue requirement so high, the owner of this saint will probably die without being able to utter it.

About the dates: The closer the gamedate is to the saint's day, the more likely the saint will answer.

About who gets the saint: Only Floirt and Okenido have the required virtue to use these three saints, and it's best to spread out the saints, as each call takes anywhere from half to all the divine favor.  Thus, more spread out saints means more can be called in the same day.  But, should the party think Floirt is unworthy to learn of a new saint, it isn't mandatory.  St. Cosmas only requires 4 more virtue than Dwarmin has, or 5 more virtue than Gregori.

I'm gonna leave the new saint decision up to the team.  Only one person can get one saint.  Who get whom?

Also, the party recently traded in the rusty rapiers for higher-quality (not necessarily better weapon type, just better made) Field Axe for Okenido and Short Sword for Gregori.

So, the team has average weapons, and lousy armor.  But, they have two potions that can protect them somewhat.  So, should they fight bandits in the back alleys for loot and cash to upgrade armor, or proceed immediately for the book?

Glacies
