Catapults with burning ammo?

I though to have read that this was possible trough lignite or coal, is it?

You mean is it possible to throw lignite or coal whilst it's alight in order to shower burning fury on Elves?

Not sure. Though since Catapults are made of wood i don't think that it is possible without killing your dwarves. Still if it DOES work. It's worth it.

i think he means using the ever-burning bin trick and firing ballista shots through it to light them up

It was just what Shadowics wrote, but instead of a magma fall you would use the thermonuclear lignite :D

I believe this was tested and proved false.
Ballista shots are considered flying objects, thus they can't really be effected by the world around them, short of being stopped by a wall, etc.

But if you light the stone before it's loaded in the catapult? Dwarf are currently not aware that they are on fire and constructions (such as catapults) can't burn, so expending a few dwarfes I think you should be able to load and fire a burning stone...

It should however be checked if the stone that lands after it flies, is the same stone, or is just a stone from the same type, generated without checking for things like" Is it burning?"

A burning stone? I didn't know any stones burned. They may melt, though...

On the other hand, a wooden ballista bolt would burn. Ignite ballista bolt --> forbid all other bolts --> fire ballista!
