I want to make DF more challenging, combat-wise, since I enjoy the military aspect of the game most.  Are there any suggested mods that give me new and tougher creatures, or modify existing ones to be more hardcore?  Alternatively, as a newbie modder, are there any suggestions you could give me on what tags to change on (for example) the goblins to make them scarier?

Right now I'm using the Orcs mod, which is excellent, but not challenging any more.  I'd also prefer not to limit myself by embarking on disadvantageous sites.  Instead, I like to embark on the perfect site, build up as strong a military as I can, and watch as my soldiers decimate waves of enemies.

Basically look for every thread in modding that has several pages of replies. There are tons and very few don't make combat harder somehow.

Changing the frequency/difficulty of existing megabeasts and adding more is a nice way to create a random challenge, if you're sick of sieges.
