Do you have a magma pipe on your map?

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

We should have seen this coming.

Anyways, you can try and build chokepoints so as to trap them in cages. Since they can't be seen untill you bump into them, have a dwarf tile to each alclove, leading to yuor chokepoint. He will RUN (you hope) away, and the GCS will follow, right into the cages. Thats what I belive, anyways.

sadly, no. i seem to have singularly bad luck with magma, so i settled for a site that had everything but magma pools or pipes. theres an underground river somewhere, as well as some HFS and a bottomles pit filled with(thankfully) normal cave spiders, batmen, and troglodites.

can GCS breed? if so  :D

i'm building a tunnel that will come out right beside one of the webs. i plan to chain a puppy at the entrance, behind whom i will set several traps. wish me luck!

GCS do not breed, though I'm sure that's an easy change in the raws.

Just trap them. It's pretty reliable as long as you plan well.

(Actually, I think that's been tried, and it doesn't work so well. Forget what the problem was, but it was.)

I have them modded to breed, and it works just fine, but it only seems to work with spiders that I buy at embark, and thus aren't hidden.

That's as far as I know, I mean.

You can probably add the tags after they're caught. I'll try it. I have a pair in cages that I think are M/F. Not really about to send Morul over to peek at the goodies, though. He'd either die or kill it with a sideways glance. Not sure which yet.

Just remember that you shouldn't tame anyone who already attacked/killed a dwarf. After they become an enemy of your site they will continue to hunt dwarves even tamed.

Best way to be sure (if you've modded them so they can breed) is to just lock a male and a female up, let them have offspring and then, cage those before they do any harm.
