Tower-Cap and Reveal2
« on: May 27, 2009, 03:42:08 am »

Hi,
I got an Underground River in my Fortress but used Reveal 2 to locate it.
Will Towercaps still start growing in Soil or wont they?

And if they wont is thair a way to repair this like whit the magma buildings?

Re-gen the world.

And listen to warnings when they come attached to 3rd party software.

re-gen the world?
You mean embark on the same fortress?

If you want to, yes.

Unless you saved a copy of the world (as recommended in various warnings re Reveal), that fortress is toast.  And since a fortress is there, you cannot embark again in the same place.  (You could "abandon", and then reclaim - different discussion.  But that fortress map would work fine.)

However, if you like it, you can re-gen it, exactly the same, and start again with the same location (if not the exact same dwarfs.)

Abandon the fortress, go to Legends, press the button to export world info. A text file will be saved to your DF fortress with worldgen parameters. Copy them into the worldgen file in the init folder, and change the NAME field to something else. Open up DF, create a new world with parameters, select your new parameters, then find the site again.

Alternatively, write down the Seed fields then write them in when designing with parameters.

For future reference (as this advice is probably useless to you now...).

What I do is, immediately after embark i save off my fort then make a copy of the region folder then load up the copy and use reveal.  I then make a note of the locations of any notable features (UG water, magma, HFS, as well as any useful mineral deposits etc) on a notepad.  Then I save and quit out and get rid of the copy (just to be sure), then load up the untouched original and armed with my newfound knowledge... STRIKE THE EARTH!

Just try it! Its not like you die IRL if Urist McMiner falls into magma.
