Commandoes (prosey suggestion)

Prosey part
Bomrek checked the padding on her plates quickly. The silk she'd wedged into the gaps in her steel armour was holding in nicely, muffling any sound she made. She knew her squad was impressed by the way she moved, wearing the full armour like it was her second skin, and she valued that.

A tangy whiff caught her nose, and she glanced up quickly. The goblin siege party had reached the wall of the fortress. Her muscles tensed, ready for emergency action, but as planned the drawbridge snapped closed just as the goblins arrived. A jeer rose from the siegers, and a counter-cry came from the walls of the fortress, where draftees handled crossbows poorly. A few ill-aimed shots arced out from the fortification, but none met their mark.

Bomrek gestured down to her squad, holding them in place for now. The time wasn't right yet. Her own hand tensed on her spear, its familiar weight pleasant and reassuring. She heard a soft creak of leather from off to her left, and shot a glare at one of the newer recruits for his indiscretion.

Her eyes shot up as a trumpet call came from the fort, and a small sortie-door opened on the opposite sides of the siege. The goblins let out a battlecry as they charged the sortie, and Bomrek nodded to her chain-clad corporal. Her own squad lunged at the back of the goblins without so much as a sigh of sound. Bomrek allowed herself a small smile as the broad blade of her spear met the pathetically crude iron chain covering the first goblin's back; the foe fell into disarray as they realised they were surrounded.

Actual suggestion
On-duty squads should be allowed to enter "stealth mode". Just like hunters, they'd move a lot slower and apply the Ambush skill to get a jump on the enemy; this would allow commandoes to do all kinds of interesting tactics. It would also provide a means to train Ambush, since squads could be sent out on stealth patrols. On the flip side, only the most elite-level Armour User commandoes could afford to wear higher than leather armour, providing a nice tradeoff for the ability.

Another thing.

Units in stealth mode...
1. ... move slower.
2. ... have better chance of ambushing the enemy (getting first shot against goblins).
3. ... have better chance of finding sneaking army.

One of the toads decided to go for a swim in the moat - presumably because he could path through the moat to my dwarves. He is not charging in, just loitering in the moat.

The toad is having a nice relaxing swim.
The goblin mounted on his back, however, is drowning.
