Help with The Editors

**Splinter thread from the Continuing Effort**

Adjunct: Something attatched to another in a dependent or subordinate position.

So an adjunct body part is a sperate body part but doesn't exactly exist on its own. In Armok, internal organs are declared as adjunct to whichever body part they are from. Fingers right now are also adjunct as are the facial features.

In Armok, I believe that the main body part us hit by an attack and then possibly adjuncts to that part are hit as well, but two main parts are not currently hit.

Problem with declaring something as an adjunct is that you cannot then build off of that part in anyway. I found this irritating when trying to make better fingers(with the prpoer three segments). These would have to be made of 15 parts only 5 of which can be considered adjuncts.

So anways, organs are adjuncts, your spike dealy can be used as one or as a seperate part, it's up to you. rigt now, the foot models do not have any areas declared to make connections and are just cubes basically. Looking at my feet, they are not cubes and seem to have places to attach toe pieces at the front. Something does not match up. I'll work on fixing that.

....I'm just not sure how to change my feet into cubes.....

Don't know yourself out too much with the toes and fingers and all that.  Eventually, I'm going to have to have things like moving jaws.  Moving jaws will imply things like wiggly fingers...  that is, the way models are done for each body part will become more complicated.  I haven't quite pieced it all together yet, but it probably won't be so bad once I get there.  The worst thing is getting the models to move right to begin with...  like, how do you make a random-bodied creature clutch its arm stub with the other hand when the arm is cut off...  or how do you make it wave its hands through the place where its severed head used to be...  or crawling (which often looks bad now)...  or all of those attacks...  its very hard to get them to look good.  Perhaps the form editor should have some additional information for that, although that's also hard to do since you'd want to be able to do all of your attacks with non-standard body parts and non-standard stances...

So my idea with the fingers was that when you go into their building block definition, they are appendages.  In the appendage definition, you can set the number of joints.  Then the model would be determined by that.  If you make a separate body part for each finger segment, I think the body definition would become cumbersome, with a lot of repeated information.

Anyway, I'm just bitching.  We can keep this as an editor thread.

yeah, that's pretty much why I'm not modeling fingers by segments, just a general total model with deformations that show it bending in different ways.

Okay... Now my brain just have to be upgraded a few houndred times before I will be able to understand the editors. I have also figured something out: Either I am REALLY stupid or the editors are REALLY complicated.

Maybe I should just start working on an in depth manual/FAQ guide for creature editing as I understnad it. Zonk's manual hasn't yet been completed to that point, and the official one is admittedly outdated.

If other people here are also having problems, I can start that in my spare time just as something else fun to distract me from my school work.

Good response to me doing this means nice in depth manual, low response means basic FAQs because you all hate me.

Get cracking.  The more people working the better- I'd check with the Great One to see if any changes are coming up though.

Materials work differently, and there will be six or seven new editors...  aside from the materials, creatures and motifs and all that work the same way.

Oh, there will definitely be some changes for the new version, but probably nothing horribly drastic that changes the entire way that the editor works, so if I'm done before then, then I update it for the new version. I can start getting fully in to do it this weekend if it seems that people need it as much as they do.

I NEED IT!!! I am having difficulty with every single part of the editors exept the material editor. One question though, what does all the different types of stats in the material editor do?

It said that only 3 are of importance... But what does the rest do? And how do you actually use the random creature generator??? When I tried to use it, it worked slightly okay for one thing... The creature had a brain and eyes and all that. But when I played as it, it didnt have a body and crashed the game!

Did you select a form before you used the random creature generator?

The other material properties don't do anything yet.
