My list of "demands"
« on: May 01, 2009, 05:23:21 am »

Well looking over the big long list as well as things posted here, I believe a lot of my concerns are already been suggested, but I still have a few left... why am i doing this when I just woke up and can't remember which hand is  my left hand yet.. well that's a mystery....

First the much talked about slavery, been suggested many times before but I will put it out there again with my own spin
Slaves: Now  how to capture the slaves is pretty straight forwards as I see it, either you inflict mercy to your soldiers so they don't kill Everything or you set up cage traps. my spin is what is done with them, First off, if they have the ability to learn let them learn, next while slaves will always have a want for home, under right conditions they might be willing to do some of the work as long as they are properly feed and treated, till that longing gets to strong and they try to escape. also children of slaves wouldn't have this urge for home, except for stories from there parents. now the question is how do you make a difference between well treated and badly treated other then food supply. perhaps options to beat slaves. different level of punishment for bad behavior?

Now the possibleways I see of using slaves is for simple jobs like hauling or cleaning of clothes (once that is added), basically putting them into the jobs of butlers and maids, also I could see, cutting and gathering wood and sand, esspically in dangerous area's

Demand two, A way to refill a square, you have plent of spare stone laying around, and natural stone is better for happyness, being able to engrave is something that I would like to do to every wall and floor. I know that we can currently create walls and floors but they can not be engraved to my knowledge.

Demand three. A way to "survey" the stone, esspcially once magic is implemented.

Demand four: Small arms. All dwarfs should carry some sort of weapon, more so when you start dwarf mode, out in the wilderness, with just two axes. I was thinking along the lines of small daggers so they weren't just wrestling.
I believe there is more... possible post later... wow this took me all day to post .. sorry ^^;

All of this and more is located in the dev notes, above.   It is suggested that you read them, or at least search them (and the forums themselves) before posting threads.

It should be noted that refilling squares is suggested very often, and that there was a thread concerning slavery on the first page.

You can return natural rock to a square via clever application of water and magma, which then acts exactly like natural stone (can be smoothed/engraved, etc.), but it's a bit tricky, especially in confined areas.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

Yes I know slavery has been posted many times but since I was going to have multiply suggestions I thought it would not be appropriate to 'invade' it will my list. This is the same for all the listed demands, As i will be adding more I just wanted to make a giant list instead of polluting another one.

Also I looked for the list of (or at least a good number, my mind can wander and lose it's place) future releases and didn't see some of these posted,sorry for making a post like this if it is that 'bad'

Also to expand on my list, I supposing this will be done once burrowing is put it (or at least in effect) but being able to link a workshop with a stockpile so it will only take  resources from that particular pile. also on the subject of stockpiles, being able to prioritize them. so this could be in effect make it so you could have things you want mainly for one purpose (say seeds) go to the farm, then send the excess to the kitchen. Also Being able to control how much of one (although I guess you could just do this by micromanaging the stockpiles )

Also thank you Untelligent. that's a great idea, now if you could just put lava in buckets. wait, can you? then I could make an obsidian pillar, but.. hmm I could see this working in my mind, Make a pit down to where you want to fill in, walls applied as needed, then pump the lava for one z level, and bucket water in... .. hmm I could make towers like this...
