I just found one of the best possible spots. It has:
  • A magma pipe
  • Flux (multiple layers of limestone)
  • Sand
  • At least two Bauxite clusters
  • At least four Magnetite clusters
  • A Platinum vein
  • Lots of trees
  • Some coal
It's a spot right beside an ocean.
Sadly there's also:
  • No goblins
  • Multiple aquifers (with some dry spots)
  • No chasm/bottomless pit/HFS/GCS
  • No skeletal whales/dangerous wildlife

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Should be ideal for ocean-side megaprojects with magma.

Any hints where? Magma + flux isn't much to go on with the search for location tool.

Search for 2x2, Magma Pipe, Flux, Elevation Low.

Unless it's an island or deep in the mountains, the lack of goblins can be solved by regenerating the world with different history seeds.  This will not affect the map layout.

I would really like to see a screenshot of the embark screen showing the yellow X's.

I'm using a 3x2 area. Functionally identical to the 2x2.

This really is a nice site for a pocket fort.  Iron, platinum, gold, cassiterite.  A little bit of copper.  Lots of trees for a 2x2.  There are murky pools, but they are dry even in Granite (January).

There is too much aquifer for my taste.  Too many levels deep.  This is expected for an ocean location, of course.

The top left has a nice area where one could dig straight down past the aquifer, so no magma-obsidian piercing methods would be needed.  Lucky!  It's at about 30 X by 25 Y.

I only can find two magnetite clusters, one of which is entirely in aquifer.  So is nearly all the coal.

I regen'ed without [AQUIFER] tags and got the same map, which I didn't know would happen.  If I play this map, I would play it this way.

I gen'ed with a random history seed and got 'The age of the Elf.'  Bah!

Overall, very nice if you want to play with ocean.
