Make it a voice recognition system!

I can't express how awesome it would be to see someone playing DF in his living room by shouting "Buildings! Workshops! Craftdwarf workshop! Left! Left! Left! Left! Up! Place!"

Plus, it's complicated, inefficient and requires tremendous amounts of efforts to complete. Dwarven.

XPadder is also another good controller to keyboard function.

I must say, Xpadder is absolutely perfect.
A managed to whip-up a playable XBOX 360 controler scheme that includes all the basic movement and selection controls for DF, and ALL THE LETTERS OF THE ALPHABET accessible through the left analog stick.

I'll admit that playing DF with this takes some getting used to, but then it's not much different then a newb getting used to the DF menus and control.

I'll see if I can post the layout here...

These are for my crappy Logitech controller at home. I've yet to try and play with this yet.  :-\

As far as picture goes, from a laptop you are probably gonna have some video wuality issues.  You can get good video cards for dektops that are designed for tv/monitors of that size.  My suggestion would be to maybe "decrease" the map size to 800x600, thereby by making each tile larger in comparison.  Also, goto "zoom" on your TV screen.  Last suggestion, maybe go into accesibility (sp?) and set fonts and screens larger.  I dont know if that will affect DF, but worth a try.

Also, I was planning to do this same thing at my house................   :)

Solution: get a chorded keyboard.

you need a 36 button gamepad for DF, that I doubt is common among the many computer/gaming stores
