I would like the ability to (if the embark sites are next to each other) designate a tile on the edge of map and one on opposite edge of other one to be linked so that any flows flow from one to the other, it would only flow when both games are un paused other wise it just fills up. Also the abilty to send caravans from one to the other, if I don't have multiple open at same time then it saves it to a file, maybe it should tke a month per embark tile?

This would be a good idea for those with multi core CPUs so they don't have to wait for multithreading until they benifit.

Multiplayer has lots of reasons it's not going to happen, and this is multiplayer.  :/

NOT MULTIPLAYER single player playing multiple dwarf fortresses, only interactions are flow tiles for liquids(if adjacecent to other site) designated by player and supply caravans.

Multiple fortresses is multiplayer.  Even if it's one player playing, it's still "multiplayer" by the common definition.

Lots of complications when different parts of the game world are moving at different speeds, or one is paused and the other isn't.  BIG complications.

And history items moving between different fortresses moving at different speeds?  BAD stuff so far.

In order for this to work, you would have to force both fortress to run at exactly the same FPS all the time.  If you paused one, the other would have to immediately pause as well.  And managing the flow of water, temperature, and creatures across the border would represent a huge amount of data and overhead for both cores.  It's a lot of overhead for something not many people would be interested in.

I don't think I'd call this suggestion a request for multiplayer, more of a hacked way of achieving the same ends as the burrows and county arcs.

It requests the same stuff as some of the more hopeful multiplayer requests, the only thing missing is TCP/IP.  Running two forts in the same world that are at all discontinuous in time or pausing is a complete non-starter.

What the OP describes with flows etc. is unrealistic, yeah, but a lot of Army Arc stuff requires letting the player temporarily "leave" the fortress to take control of squads at remote locations, etc.  And the County Arc will require stuff along those lines too, as nil mentioned.
