Odd Digging Bug
« on: April 23, 2009, 11:03:24 pm »

I just discovered that if you set a ramp to be dug in the 'open air' at the top of of an undiscovered magma pool, your dwarf will dig through the level above to dig the ramp, which will then be physically dug into the obsidian rock on the level below, revealing the magma pool without actually breaching it.

_D__WWW
W_R__
W_X__MM

D is where Dwarf is
R is where Ramp designation is
X is where Ramp actually gets dug
W is walls, M is Mgma, _ is a floor.

Here's some screenies;

Level above the magma pool, level at the magma pool and level below the magma pool.
You can see the Ramp my Dorfs tried to dig.

On a semi related note, I've had a "You have struck a Magma Pipe" message without actually having the pipe revealed, though I'm unsure as to whether or not that's intended.

Sounds like this one:

001055 □ [dwarf mode][jobs][designations] (Report) dwarf managed to dig out a ramp that was located two levels below

Does sound similar.

I think the dwarf 'dug' the ramp out, the game then realised that ohshit, thats open air, ramp can't fit there! And so it moved it down a level to a place where it -could- fit.
