Job Profiles
« on: April 26, 2009, 07:36:10 pm »

I'd like to see some sort of menu so I can adjust who does what jobs from designations and build jobs, such as, setting it so only my Adept Engravers will engrave while anyone with stone detailing toggled will smooth stone. I'd also like to prevent my legendary masons from assembling my watch towers and my Great Wall of Dwarfa when I need floodgates and doors xP. The menu itself could be similar to the Workshop Profile one. This should allow me to get my dwarfs priorities straight xP

It would be particularly nice to be able to set it so only Legendary miners mine out ore or gemstones, while letting non-legendary dwarves mine out unimportant dirt and rock.

Setting a minimum so low-skilled dwarves only smooth and only highly-skilled dwarves do actual engravings would be nice, too, though.

I think they talked about these in the Dev notes.

I would really rather de-couple skill and the probability of getting a unit or rock or ore when mining, I mean REALLY how do you FAIL to produce small pieces of rock when breaking up a larger rock?  Their are other things that good miners can do better like being less likely to trigger a cave in or something but not this ridicules 'make rocks go poof' thing.

Unskilled dwarfs just produce a big pile of rubble, while a skilled miner uses his pick to form that ginormous rock that you see on your screen. Also - getting gems out of stone, just armed with a copper-pick is not as easy as it looks in df Ôo.

Furthermore, I support the notion for better work-planning... but this is quite an old suggestion

Copper saws are used to cut granite. Bits of the harder rock gets stuck in the soft copper and become dislodged when worn down so you have a self replenishing edge.
