Note to self: Megabeast percentage and Years generated. . .
« on: April 24, 2009, 02:03:37 am »

Reducing Megabeast percentage for stoppage and reducing the years of history generated can be SERIOUSLY HAZARDOUS TO HEALTH OF DWARVES.
Year one: Autumn has arrived.

Some traders have arrived.
My thoughts: Awesome, I can pawn off the 1.4k worth food thing on them for an anvil or something.

Shortly there after, I see a message: A war dog has been struck down.
Now, I'm on a map with a chasm, and there is a bunch of the ratmen and stuff running around cause it reaches the surface. So I thought, shoot, probably wandered into a group of them or something.
But, never the less, I pause, and find its corpse, to find what killed it.
Only there was nothing on the immediate screen. -- so I look around a bit with 'v', to find creature things.
And I see an Iron Man, just a bit above the dog corpse.

Luckily, this thing is clearly a dwarven creation; it falls into the pond, and has to sit there, unable to escape, so my remaining dogs rip it to shreds.

There is now a 3000 Dwarf buck Iron statue in a pond, which I don't want to drain right now. Only in dwarf fortress.

I'm fairly certain iron men are never considered megabeasts, since they're fairly common in adventurer mode, so your early stop year probably doesn't have anything to do with this particular set of circumstances. It's more likely that you just got 'lucky' with your embark area.
