Pipes

And I mean the fluid transport kind. I don't think I've seen them mentioned in the bloats. Will they go in? I suppose canals do most of the work that pipes do, but...

I imagine pipes would be good for irrigation, especially when you want a happy medium between "no water" and "water up to the ceiling".

Question is how do you make them?

Pipes can be made with wood, like how barrels are constructed. They can be made with clay and metal but you would need a mold to do it. Molds were suggested awile back but may end up overcomplicating stuff.

Right now it seems that channels and tunnels are the only really "pipelike" things we have to work with at the moment.

You can make them out of most metals too. Lead pipes were used in the Roman empire, and were apparently one of the reasons for it's downfall... which leads me to think the dwarves had probably better go with tin or something.   ;)

What about pipes leading through walls.
That would save space.

Absolutely. Maybe a "build pipes" designation, where every square requires a section of pipe and a mason. Pipes can go inside walls as long as the mason can reach the wall in question.
