Simple needs
« on: April 21, 2009, 09:16:49 pm »

First - I know about the Dwarf Heaven seed that everyone's drooling over right now, and further, I have it.  However, it is a less than ideal world for my current goals, so telling me about it won't do anyone any good.

That said, has anyone found a seed that gives a decent area with low (or no) elevation changes, a river, sand, magma, lots of trees, and HFS?  I want me a clear glass tower and some demons to fight.

you'll really struggle to find a flat map with HFS, HFS only appears in mountain biomes

'b' is different than 'x' and a Bed doesn't hold back magma as well as a Floodgate no matter how fast you type.

Is there any way you can think of to get a mountain biome that isn't too cliffy?

that said, you can easilly get as few as 5 elevation levels, and probably less than that if you try.

I remember one a few versions ago that was 3x3 with chasm, brook, magma, hfs.  but the central chasm with 3 GCS around it was too great for me to surmount.

Mess with the world generation parameters to skew it in favor of single elevation areas and then batch generate a bunch of worlds. You'll want to mess with the erosion cycles and the elevation weights mostly I think... You could always automate the process with an AHK script and run it over night.

what.

Heh, I don't know how to batch generate worlds, and I don't know how to make scripts.  Kinda sad, but true nonetheless.

How does the generation process determine if an area is a 'mountain' biome, rather than plains?

I don't know how it places each biome, but I know there are values in world_gen.txt that influence how many regions are of each biome.

These pages tell you what changing certain values influence. A quick glance suggests it would be a good idea to minimize the Elevation X and Y variance, and possibly bring the Min/Max elevation closer together. A high Erosion Cycle Count also makes mountains look more like plains.

I've got a map I'm playing right now with all of those except sand, although it has massive amounts of hematite and magnetite.  Only 3 or 4 levels of elevation...if someone can tell me what to post for world gen, I'll try to find it for you.  I just hit the quick world button myself.  :P

I posted a world that should meet your needs in this thread. It doesn't have any sedementary rock, and I don't recall how dense the trees are, but it's about as flat as you're going to get for the specifications, and it's small.

Be a true dwarf and flatten the land yourself. Medieval terraforming ftw.
