That's normal. Kobolds can avoid traps and pick locks. Too bad kobold ambushers are just as much trash as their thieves.

Huh? I always assumed forbidden doors just had a note on them saying "keep out". Why don't dwarves use, y'know, door bars for security? Can't pick one of these...
