first thing: put a floor on the bottom of the chasm. then you can do 2 things:

1) fill with magma.

or

2) make a ceiling too and fill with water. drown everybody!

My current fortress, Savageknife, has been experimenting with dwarven revenge for a while. Here's the current offerings:

Captured rhesus macaques and cougars have been placed into a walled enclave and allowed to breed. Captured enemies are thrown to the monkeys.

There is an incinerator in my fort. On occasion enemies are placed within.

There is a tower from which enemies are routinely tossed. Said tower is approximately 15 Z-levels high. There are many pieces.

There are other things, too. Soon, the Community Fun Events are planned to open: give every dwarf a crossbow and let the cages open inside a chamber filled with fortifications.

What to do with a violent troglodyte,
What to do with a violent troglodyte,
What to do with a violent troglodyte,
Earl-ye in the morn-in'!

Throw 'em in a pit with a one whip weapon trap,

What kefka said, but I would recommend building a tower, and then inside the drop area having the deepest pit you can manage for extra effectiveness.

I put my own twist on the pit trap, though. It's the good old 15-level drop, but there's a bridge a couple levels down. I collect prisoners on the bridge (or animal sacrifices) and just pull the lever, sending the whole gang to the pit.

I need to leave it alone for a while, it's so full of pieces! Go, haulers!
