What happens to floodgates / constructed walls when reclaiming a fortress?

Could someone tell me what happens to constructed walls and floodgates / inaccessible buildings (ones built under magma, underwater, behind walls etc) when you reclaim a fortress?

I want to abandon my current fortress but there are a lot of floodgates that if removed would flood loads of the lower levels, so do I have to build walls in front of them or block them off somehow?

i think only loose objects (chairs, tables and the like) move when you abandon a fortress, your floodgates should be just fine.

test this by savescumming, and visitig in adventure mode.

I can confirm that, at least when abandoning, floodgates and walls stay in place. My fortress hadn't turned into a giant block of obsidian when I visited it  :)
