 Besides, its going to be FOREVER untill the new version comes out. I'm guessing like, 2045 will be a liberal estimate.

So might as well start a fort, play it out to the fullest, send aventurers in there and build another fort after that.

There is absolutely no reason to think you could play a fortress as long as its going to take for this next release to come out.
That's version 1.00.000.01a silly.
The next version will probably be mid-April to early may release, I think.

Hahahaha we wish.  Toady just said he was planning to spend all of April on underground, and after that squads look likely to take another month, with maybe half a month for entity positions and another half-month or month for all the other stuff and miscellany.  So I doubt it'll be before July.
