Special traps for special creatures
« on: February 16, 2008, 05:06:00 pm »

As the post title says. There should be a way to prepare special traps for special creatures So that the new "problem" of trapping merchants doesn't arise because you put traps for the pesky macaques.

Or at least there should be a way to make to distinguish traps to capture unintelligent creatures from intelligent creatures.

Just make a usually closed side corridor with cage traps, and when your target arrives, close the main corridor, and open the side corridor. I use this to cage megabeasts. The gobbos just run down the main corridor into the weapon traps, while I open the side corridor for exotic creatures.
code:

░░░░░░░
░.^^^.░   <- Trapped side corridor w/ cage traps
░+░░░+░░░
+.+^^.... <- Main corridor w/ weapon traps. Can be
+.+^^....    blocked with floodgates, if it's wider
░░░░░░░░░

The problem I see is that it's not just goblins, which arrive at predeterminated times, that you should worry about. There are macaques and other beasts which arrive whenever they want without warning and for which you cannot prepare special corridors with traps.

Edit: On the other hand, Toady has said he will fix the merchant trapping stuff so, no worries.

Why would you want to capture macaques?

Err, why not?

It's amusing to trow 20 macaques with a single gob inside a very small chamber.
