Does this mean if I build a floodgate on the square that connected the murky pool to my failed U-bend the pool would start to refill?

It would be slow going, but that would be a decent supply.  In fact, I could attach each natural pool to the cistern via a floodgate and pumps to help produce more water per rain.

It would be a hell of a timing issue to get it to dump just a bit of the water into a cistern, but it's possible.  I tried this once with a switch to automate it but the mechanics weren't fast enough to skim just 3 water from the pool when it hit 7.  It might work better with a bigger pool.

Murky pools refill with rain, but the amount of rainfall and how long the pools last depends on the climate. If you have a few pools and are very clever with rigging a cistern, you can actually collect quite an impressive amount of water from even meager rainfall.

To me it seemed like the murky pools just went 7/7 each spring- the closest thing I've seen to rain filling them were a few 1's on what used to be empty but those evaporate pretty easily.

You could build a U tube twisted though so that you had a nice shaft for the water to drop down and then you could remove the pressure with the other arm of the U being horizontal and connect by a diagonal- then you'd have easy low-height pump access that you could fill an underground chamber with, perhaps one level a season.

*for some reason I wrote that thinking something like "I wanna do this without permanently emptying the pool."

Yes, actually, I am trying to get myself banned.  I wish Toady would quit working on this worthless piece of junk and go back to teaching math.

I did that, but it gave me weird spacing amounts. all of the D's were way out of position.

well, if it works for you?

The forum edit box doesn't use a fixed-width font.  I copied it over to Notepad, which has Lucida Console(fixed-width font) set.  Makes all the spacing turn out nice.

An alternative would be to switch your font to Courier, which is what's displayed inside the [ code ] tags
