But then who would protect Toady so he could stay in a meditative state during the apocalypse, letting nothing interrupt his coding?

A long tunnel is the answer. Tunnels EVERYWHERE.

I haven't slept in two days and in college yesterday found myself setting out my days tasks as designations and store items and wondering where my minions where to haul all my stuff around then throwing a tantrum when a friend mysteriously wasn't in class. Oh and I'm not going to even mention what I did when we were making/calculating telescopes.

I had a dream that I was a dwarf harassing patrons of a bar, I guess that'd have something to do with DF.

Guys, we need to start recruiting the right people is the key thing. Everyone knows that when the zombies start attacking, all the DF players will show up at Toadys and create our own mountainhome in his backyard, leading the human resistance force. When that day comes, do we want to have recruited elves and sissies into the ranks of the fortress builders? Or do we want the cynicals and the crazy, true dwarves at heart?

 :D

"The zombies are at the gates! Everyone grab your *cotton sock*! OH SHIT. CARP. PULL THE DAMN LEVER!!!!!!

Congratulations, you have struck Uranium! Praise the drillers!
Toady One, Great Leader, has altered the price of goods.
A diplomat from Greenpeace has arrived.

Thats what popped into my head when i read that. ;D

Also, a real-life mountainhome would be bitching. Unfortunately, physics would get in our way. >:(
\

In the words of the creator of "How I learned to stop worrying and love the zombie troll" ( an amazing story on these forums) "Fuck physics, we're dwarves!"

While we may be dwarves in spirit, physics still aplies to our human bodily shell.

We could always try the moon?

additionally, we could always use MAGMA to keep toady safe?

I like, but how would we supply him with food and drink? Given time the zombies could tunnel or construct a bridge, so the area around both Toady and our base would need a layer of magma on all sides of this cube, with retaining walls. We'd also need an underground river to put watermills in because Toady needs power, and then a pump or two to flood the tree farm so that we can continue to provide warmth for everyone in the cold, underground complex.

true, im already working on the floor plan for our beautiful mountainhome though.

by the way, ill work on our anti-zombie defences. we will only need to have a magma moat though, as we all know that magma instantly disintegrates virtually everything.

I was looking for an old DI article on a mine that was flooded, which related to a moat I once had the fed into an underground water system, when I discovered a strangely large number of relevant DF articles under the Disaster section.

 Which is oddly fitting.

Sounds almost like a scene from a dime in a dozen "disaster movie"

It made me wonder though; is there any "swirling vortex" plan for water to create spiral-shapes as it gets drained by a hole in the bottom? or will it remain as is now, where there's no noticable spiral?

Reason i ask is; I want to make a whirlpool of pet-killy goodness

No notable spiral, but that is where the power of imagination comes in.

i already knew about that one, i was investigating about chernobyl (every once in a while i get in those weird investigations)....

and now that i think of it, chernobyl kinda fits DF too, a big construction that makes everything go horribly wrong...
