Almost Done
« on: December 15, 2002, 03:33:00 am »

I finished a lot of tree nonsense...  I found myself adding an interface for changing stances if your character is a tree at one point.  That was stupid, but it all makes sense...  the code I used for trees invalidated about half of the rest of my code, but now it will be very very easy to add in things like extra arms sprouting out of humans.  It's the same in the code.  Maybe I'll even put that in the magic release.  It'll be fun to add mutation traps later...  you'll be able to watch your poor self degenerate into a sub-human monstrosity, and then you'll be forced to crawl around and frighten people.

Anyway, I'm two days ahead of schedule.  There is ONE more thing I have to do, and then I will have hit my minimum requirements for this release.  I didn't quite hit my expectations, but looking at the future pages, I don't suppose I'll ever do that.  There will probably be some speed concerns too.  And bugs.  Many many bugs.  I'll deal with all that crap in January.  Then I'll put in body detonation spells.  He he he...

So...  I was walking around, and the whole place seemed very pastoral.  Nothing but trees and rabbits.  It was confusing, because I had just put in the code that made wild carnivores in sour moods half of the time.  I was never attacked, but I eventually came upon the corpse of a bear.  There was nothing else around.  It turned out that the hunters had become the hunted -- in fact, they were hunting the nearest prey...  themselves...  that bear really messed itself up.

I fixed that.  My next game, I was wandering around the countryside again.  Sure enough, I came upon a bear, and there were two rabbits scattered all around it.  At first, it seemed to ignore me, but when I went closer to investigate, it charged.  I tried to defend myself, but the bear ripped me in half.  It was a random clade bear -- this one was gray and had very big feet.

You can also get jumped by random mammals, reptiles, and killer insects, though I haven't seen any of the latter yet.

I'm gonna test it some more.  He he he...

Met a few titans and was killed by naked mole dogs...

I also made a world with nothing but reptiles...  no trees or grass even...  then I played a human and ran around.  This is what happened:

Will some of these predators be pack hunters? Can some of the rabbits be aggressive too?

Right now all of the rabbits are herbivores, and all herbivore are currently passive (unless attacked).

Other creatures can be pack hunters...  right now, 80% of species are solitary.  80% of those that aren't solitary hunt in small packs.  90% of the rest hunt in mid-level packs, and the any remaining species hunt in large packs.  I think I made it so you can set the grouping type in the creature editor as well.

When I say hunt in packs...  they don't coordinate (yet) or anything like that.  They just appear in groups.
