PICAXE-08M Anybody use it?
« on: March 26, 2009, 11:31:57 am »

Tahin and I are working with these PIC chips, little DIP 8s and DIP 20s. They're great for small projects and run a unique form of BASIC- in the same sense that DF has a unique form of interface.
Anyway, I was wondering if anybody has worked with these PICAXE devices before.

Everyone in the class has a project that they have selected. I'm making these infrared communicator boxes- what you do is you use a dial and button system to type out a message on an LCD screen, then you can press a button to send the text via infrared pulses to annother box.

Tahin's is... a robotic crippled chihuahua. On a Gimble

I should say that the resource level for this project basically puts us IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!

I'm still a little pissed off over that 10-line digit-isolation code I wrote (apparently BASIC doesn't support order of operations) which ended up doing the same thing as a ONE-CHARACTER change to our previous code. What's worse is that the textbook told us to do it that way. Note that those ten lines took me about three hours and a visit to my python interpreter to figure out.

I hate PICAXE. I'm going to see if I can find a PIC chip for my project so I can code in glorious, glorious C.
