The Rise of a King part I
« Reply #15 on: March 19, 2009, 04:55:01 am »

You begin as the youngest son of ranchers.  You grow up, helping your parents, hunting and farming.  One day you head off to hunt elk, you are gone for days, alone with only a horse.  Upon your return, you find the fields and outbuildings burned and house ransacked.  After burying your family you gather your few possessions and make your way to the city.

In the city you find work as a Guardsman protecting the citizens and punishing the wicked.  News of increased attacks by goblins and a the need for more land causes the king to proclaim a levy, calling up troops to go to war.  You take part in many battles, until the attack upon the goblin capital. Nearly a thousand warriors fight in the shadow of the largest dark tower in the land.

Half your comrades perish upon the barren plain, half more within the tower, on the roof the demon lord makes a last stand felling wave after wave till only the oldest and youngest remain.  with the general leading the last desperate charge you rush the demon all at once hacking away with little effect.  The demon strikes down the general.  His death sends you into a trance, in a flash you have taken up the fallen man’s sword and in a legendary strike you cleave the dark master apart.

You return a hero, the king grants a large reward of land and gold.  You hire men and with them you clear a swath in the forest, between a river and the mountains.  You build a camp to house, and till farms to feed your company.   One day your explorations in the mountains yield a discovery, deep caves with rich veins of gold.  People flock to your small corner of the world seeking fortune.  The logging village grows to a city overnight, bringing you a fortune and a headache.  Nobles interested in the immense wealth offer to buy the titles off you, and you accept.

Tired with land you take to the sea buying a fleet of merchant ships and fishing boats.  From your flagship “Sota Ash B” you lead a grand fleet.  A powerful storm sinks a third of them and blows them into uncharted waters, for weeks you search for land.  You find an unfamiliar land far from the known world. Sailing up and down the shore you find it an inviting yet strange place.

The fleet sails back home bringing news of this new land.  Your king commands you to set out and explore this place; you make trips back again bringing workers to set up a permanent base.

I personally would enjoy the second story a lot more :)

I would prob build a house in the middle of nowhere and try to remain alive without the help of outsiders. Under a small hatch in my house is a huge labyrinth, with creatures that exist only in nightmares are breeding and growing stronger every day. Feeling bored, I dig a tunnel towards a nearby town and release the creatures from their dark rooms with the help of a trigger. As the town is getting obliterated, I walk to another nearby town and accept the quest to rid the town of those creatures, becoming a hero and repeating this for a few times :P
I mean, come on, who doesn't like seeing villagers getting ripped apart by all kinds of creatures?:D

Heres an idea, which i decided not to present in 'huge wallo text' format. It's partially inspired by the dev updates on healthcare.

Mod ogres as a 'play now' race. Painstakingly train up sneaking skills to legendary, this will take a while because ogres are slow learners. Make a leather hooded cloak and mask, dye them black and wear them, along with other black dyed leather clothes. Maybe make and wear an iron mask instead of a black leather one. Find a cave of kobolds and wipe them out, making sure to capture several. Dig out a number of rooms and make wooden furniture for them, beds and doors. Widen out the central part of the cave and put in tables, shelves and chests. This is your operating room. Also a room of cages to put captives in.

Gather a large supply of food and water and store it away in the cave. Make another huge supply of splints, bandages and the like. Now practice wrestling by breaking every bone in your captives' bodies, one at a time. Then train health care by setting every broken bone and letting them rest in the cells with beds until their bones have healed. Then repeat the process. While your 'patients' are healing, take some nets and sacks and sneak into cities, dark fortresses, etc. Kidnap random members of the races and use them as wrestling/healthcare practice. Keep doing that until wrestling and healthcare are legendary, which should take a long time since ogres are slow learners.

Get yourselve a big iron cleaver or bonesaw. Add a white butcher's apron to your outfit. Do interesting things to your 'patients' or just dispose of them. Make sure not to clean the bloodstains off the apron. Now go happily terrorize settlements, using your legendary medical skills to quickly recover any injuries you sustain doing so. Be sure to capture more subjects for experiments and stuff along the way too.

First train up your masonry and mining skills to a legendary level. Find a human civilization situated beneath a river originating in the mountains. Dam the river using any ingenious skills you have, and carve out a Huge lake. Then pull the self-destruct lever that completely levels your dam, unleasing torrents of water that completely destroy all life for miles downriver. Future civilizations will create Mythology centered around a God(you) destroying the sinful humans.

You start in the capital of a human civilisation. You immediately withdraw from society, and dig a tunnel through the floor of your old, shunned house, which ends in a sinister looking, dark underground lair.

You visit a dark fortress and capture a newborn goblin baby. You cage it and as it grows up, indoctrinate it with cursed passages from an ancient daemonic book. You proceed doing this until the goblin enters adulthood, and knows no language but the unholy passages.

At one night, you knock out and kidnap a female virgin and take her to your hidden cave. As you chain her next to the ever rambling goblin, tormenting her with maddening cursed language, you torture her at the most terrible  of intervals.

In no less than weeks of dedicating yourself to the meticulous art of torture of the once lively, pure young lady, you finally emerge above ground again, only to snatch ten children. You take them too into your unknown lair under town, where they are met by a most terrible sight: A fully mangled, partially dismembered and fully-gone-insane young woman, clinging on to the last bit of life she has left in her. She is butchered into a more agonizing death than anybody at that time held possible. A pentagram blood and entrails now decorates your dark, fetid cave.

The young children, now heavily traumatized and weeping for their salvation, will not be granted the luxury of death. You firmly grab each one of their little heads, place your thumbs over their eyes and proceed to gouge their eyes out. With precise care, you pick up a needle and rope reed thread and sew their eyes and noses shut. The horrifying death of the virgin being the last thing they saw, it replays on and on in their never ending flashbacks and nightmares.
Having no sense but hearing left, the children are placed within close proximity of the ever rambling goblin, who will neither fail to fulfill his purpose for this second time.

You tattoo every inch of the children's skin with evil marks, unholy text and drawings of the most daemonic kind.

You wait several months 'til the madness strikes them, and every one of them imitates the goblin's foul ramblings. Unfortunately for the children, these daemonic passages are the last they will ever hear. You take away the childrens' last valuable sense, their hearing, and sew their ears shut. You construct 15 razor-sharp chains, and chain the ten children - five on the inside, five on the outside.

You wait.

What once used to be lively children, are now but empty husks of men. The cave is now engulfed in the sound of vile passages coming from the mouths of ten ink-black, malnourished 'men'. Their only sense for the past decades has been the sense of touch, though those terrible razor sharp chains made sure they did not cherish it for a single second.

The time is right.

(To be continued)

And now for a somwewhat more peacefyl intermission

Once Magic gets in, take an adveturer, depopulate the world, remove all traces of civilization, except a single crystal city built in such a way that i is somewhat awkward for humans. Then build a 'space ship crash site' out of steel and stuff, make it enormous.

Then commit suicide.

Start playing Human Fort mode, carve out gates and homes into the crystal using psychic powers, build up a civ with frams and towns and stone/wooden towns and villages stretching the continent. Retire as a guiding force.

Start an adventurer, take over a number of important guilds, including the weaponmakers guild, set up a conspiracy involving ancient rapid fire guns from the space ship.

Release control over adventurer.

Start an adventurer in a village that's about to be destroyed by the army of the conspirators...

yadda yadda yadda, you're the most powerfull magician in the lands, you go to city, become guard and so forth.

Congrats, you just played out the entire Edeard portion of the Void trilogy by Peter F hamilton. possible at least up to book 2, as 3 isn't out yet.
