More Realistic Plants mod
« on: May 13, 2009, 11:52:12 pm »

EDIT : VAST IMPROVEMENTS!

And the post here was a little rambling so it's been struck. Inspired by Boksi's Plant mod, this is meant to replace the entire set of arable crops. Most notable changes:
23 new plants.
Underground crops grow much slower on average.
Aboveground crops no longer grow in all biomes, you get different combinations depending on location.
Aboveground crops no longer grow all-year round. (except a few)
16 types of booze!
7 Types of dye, new options for extracts like jam, cooking oil, etc, 4 types of plant fiber instead of 2.
Plants are taken from reality (with the exception of half the underground crops).

I'd love to get feedback of any kind as this is my first little modding adventure and I was just kind of getting my feet wet. I'm also wondering if anyone knows what GENPOWER does, I assume it's the frequency that the plant is placed in worldgen, but I can't for the life of me find any difference when I change it.

GENPOWER used to be connected with the underdeveloped magic system according to the wiki, now it's an unused tag, plants aren't placed during worldgen afaik, they are just randomly generated by the biome they happen to be in.

Thanks Smew. After finding the Tokens Catagory on the wiki my life was vastly simplified :)
I assume this response means there's not an incredible interest in a mod like this but I'm going to balance and finish it anyway, if just for myself. I am quite enjoying it. I started a beet farm.

Another Question : Turns out something like this doesn't require a new worldgen, does it? I just have to delete matgloss_plant from objects and start a new fort? It seems to be working. Sorry, I'm a little new at any modding that doesn't come with instructions.

Making new reactions does require a new world, but changing an already made reaction doesn't. :D

Seems pretty nice, especially the flavour text and the jams. The underground crops are still fairly fast-growing and the toady stool extract could use a value boost, since it's intended for trade and extracts don't get quality levels.

You would have to start a new world with this mod if you haven't put it in the objects folder yet. The old world will still be looking for the entries it was genned with and it won't recognise the new ones. Don't forget to check the errorlog after you start a new fortress. One of your biome tokens is wrong ('savanna' by itself is not a biome).

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
