Embark site bragging and sharing
« on: March 15, 2009, 04:21:54 am »

After my last fortress fell to a mishap with pressurised magma, I gen a new region and find this beauty of a site. Seems too good to keep to myself, so here it is for all to share.

Parametes are a few modifications on the standard 'Medium' set, full details in the spoiler. Generated on PC.

Now I just need to decide what to do with it. I've been on an obsidian tower spree lately, but that seems like a waste here. I think there needs to be a HFS vs. chasm dwellers rumble at the very least.

Looks really neat, though I'd move the embark rectangle 1 east for moar forest.

Oh, and it's freezing. But otherwise, neat!

I'd just shrink the embark rectangle 1 east for moar fps.

Gah, I always manage to kill 20+ dwarves in winter due to waterfalls in freezing maps :(

So yeah, I'll have to pass. Nice find, though. I think I can't play without magma or underground water, unless it's a map I co-play with my friend, so I may look into it once I finish my current megaproject.

I'd cut it down 1 north and 1 east for FPS. The brook isn't really needed if you have the underground water - especially on a freezing map. Otherwise looks like a great site. Sand, flux, likely bauxite. Maybe I'll try genning it with orcs and see if the site is still there.

I just genned it in 40d (Mac OS X) with orcs and upgraded gobbos and it came out with the same geographic features, but I show claystone/silt loam as surface features. No sign of sand in the immediate area nor any immediate evidence of flux, though it's likely down there. The entire right edge of ronnie's embark rectangle is heavily forested/sediment, with freshwater swamp/sediment in that bottom right corner.

I have all civs (including the orcs) and hostile with orcs and gobbos. Cliffs from 0-2 in height - so not too many z-levels.

Looks like a winner to me.
