I would so build automatic whip traps made out of a seriously crappy whip (copper?) and just keep beating my nobles with them all day long.

I use a cheated reactions_standard.txt file for most of my forts, but other than that I rarely cheat except when I need something awsome done (like using tweak to get ___ into elaborately designed deathtrap)

It's important to wear lots of face paint while you program. And you can type with your long Gene Simmons tongue.

I used DwarfManager to make all the children work. They are a powerful strip-mining / smoothing / hauling force =D.

I've set all soil types to be sand collectable as a cheaty move.

To experiment with modding I replaced the dwarf civ with tentacle demons and that took a lot of trial and error.  In order to make it workable, I removed tag after tag to eliminate problems until the tentacle demons actually began to just resemble slightly larger people with these extra tentacles.  But I do recall that I did manage to allow them to continue to have the no_sleep no_exert at least. Some combination of fire_immune and no_fear meant on one map that they took the shortest path across the magma pipe, which meant going for a fatal swim.  I also added grasp on the tentacles (shields!... and gloves? kay) as well as other minute adjustments to the body.  It was definitely a fun experiment to learn some of the modding nuances, but really didn't improve play all that much.

Stone to wood.

Because by Amork, I should be able to make barrels, beds, and bins out of stone!

The first thing I did was mod Plump Helmets to be inedible, unbrewable, and uncookable, so they're no longer the dream crop (and my growers actually have time to plant other kinds of seeds). But then, I missed them, so I punched up a bunch of reactions to turn large heaps of them (like 10-to-1) into metal ores and rough gems. Beats arguing with the liaison (or worse, the liaison's corpse), and I get to build my entire fortress out of rose gold. Oh, and electrum-studded EVERYTHING.

Still unsatisfied, I gave all the junk stones a reaction class and started smelting them into Plump Helmet Spawn.

Use For Each Tile to flood the entire world with magma, with my residents surviving on a tiny island in the hellish landscape.  Usually try to make a bridge to any land still above the magma with a map edge so I still get gobbo invasions.

I learned that if a wagon climbs a ramp that has magma on the other side of the wall, the wagon puller animal will clip through the wall and catch on fire.  Only one of them touched the magma though.  So the wagon dragged the flaming half dead chocobo(lighting fire to all the grass on the way) all the way off the map.  All the wagons behind it caught fire and scuttled from the de'lorean esque flames the lead wagon left behind.  I really shoulda recorded that.

once i figured out how to do it, i had Urist McAdventurer using his own corpse to beat the living s*** out of the elves. had it raining elf corpses over the forest, too. fitting that they were all of thier civ leader, lol. duplicate your corpse while dead (you know, when weather tells you "there is no weather when...), and set yourself to alive again with that companion program, and you'll be able to do all that too! (fun times)

I set up reactions to make Piled Bone Blocks and Fused Bone Blocks. Making a fort out of goblin bones is fun.
