Windowed mode problem

I'm trying to play 16x16 graphics with my 1024x768 resolution and I was going to try to just make a 1280 width window, drag it to the middle, and hopefully the stuff on the sides wouldn't be too necessary, but I can't make the window any wider than 1024. I remember doing this before but I can't do it now for some reason, does anybody have a suggestion?

You mean... windows won't make the borders bigger than your screen res? I think someone fixed something similar to this by going to fullscreen and back to windowed several times (10, as I recall) (fullscreen key is F11). Worth a try?
