Well, I've got a world where the climate around all the feature filled spots is rather extreme. The one I have running has a magma pipe, HFS, a brook, and an underground river, along with a white sand soil layer that sported many trees. The tree filled area was 'cold' but the mountains were all 'freezing' and the brook source was on the mountain side of the map, thawing only for 15 days in the middle of summer (except the map edge, which never froze oddly enough). I was ingenious in the creation of my water reservoir, because the soil side thawed for all of summer. I made a tunnel under the middle of the river, and filled it with magma. It melted the ice above so I had a constant flow of water, even though the brook surface showed it as frozen. I loved this map because I used Rysith's orcs v2, and had three goblin civs that sieged just as quick as the orcs. I made goblins the size of dwarfs so that you had at least some chance of getting a small, ironclad militia prepared for the orcs, because I made orcs 4 sizes bigger with 2 damage added to all values in their attacks. Truly terrifying is that I gave elf caravans the entity tag that let them have gaurds, and with 8 well-skilled bow wielding gaurds, only 2 orcs died in the onslaught, and several healed red organ wounds before they even got to my fortress. Once I can use my regular computer I'll get this to you all. Also, it has an upside down Flordia on the map.
