I miss the annoying messages.
« on: March 02, 2009, 07:38:50 pm »

Hi there.

So, I found this game "Dwarf Fortress" by chance. It looked bloody brilliant so I gave it a go and spent a weekend absorbing the info on the wiki (you mean I can go up and down???). Now it's going great, I've got a nice 100 dwarf strong hole in the ground ( ;Dprisonstockades ;D) going but I think I did something to turn the red messages off (ie cannot do such and such... need unrotten this and that). Anybody know how to turn it back on? While it's nice not being inundated with messages it isn't nice going half a season before realizing that I sill have the "only soldiers can go outside" setting on as the wounded prisonstockadians drown in the blood and vomit of the goblins who were just thwarted.

Thanks, and Reese's Pieces to you all.

It's either an INIT option or in the
  • ptions menu.

The second, you go in through the o menu then change an option involving the messages, I forget exactly what it says but you'll probably recognize it.

'o' for the options menu, then hit 'x' until it says "Announce all job cancellations."

Enjoy the spam.

Announce all job cancellations will get you spammed because the dwarves will tell you every time they stop a job. So if they stop working because they're tired or hungry or thirsty, you'll hear about it.

Announce some job cancellations will just let you know the important ones, namely that they're stopping because a creature attacked them or there isn't anything to work with.

The last option turns them off.
