[40d] Minor Problem with the Civilization Screen
« on: February 24, 2009, 10:16:45 pm »

Hello, I apologize now if this has been brought up before or too small a nuisance to be cleared up, but I generated a world in which my chosen Dwarf civilization was at war with a nearby elven civilization and a goblin one. Once I embarked I went to look at the civilization screen and noticed that it only registered the elven civ as an enemy. (The small red W did not appear over the goblins)

The second screen once you tabbed over indicated that both provided terror( and we vengeance, no problem there). Again, very minor techinical issue just thought I would bring it up.

And another odd occurence (although I'm not complaining about this one) is that at seperate times both civs sent ambushers during my first year at the fort. It was a rather smashing good time trying to first repel an elven raider group with a massed Dwarven peasant charge and then a season later doing the same (with greatly depleted numbers) to a goblin group of raiders. Thanks for the read and cheers to Toady One.

I've often found that the goblin civs almost never start out as hostile, even though, over time, they end up becoming so by default. Their raws have them coded to send ambushers, but they don't become hostile until later, if ever. This might be because you end up killing their ambushers, or because there's a natural timetable for how many babysnatchers have to fail before the invasion begins, but the bug where goblins aren't shown as hostile certainly isn't limited to 40d. It would be interesting to see if they never become hostile on the civs menu if you only ever capture their invaders.

I always interpreted this as a feature -- "we mean no harm, we just want to kill you and take your babies."

Yeah naturally hostile civs are hilarious in their own right.

Alot of players suggest that if you want to get a civilization hostile towards your mountain home, than you need to send adventurers native towards the mountain home and have them slaughter a bunch of inhabitants. Also joining a religion native to the mountain home helps but I've never seen a Priest dwarf.
