All the fortresses are full of animals
« on: June 21, 2011, 01:56:23 am »

Ive been playing a few world I have created and cant find a single human fortress with anything other than animals in it, is this a bug or what, because its amazingly hard to find companions without any soldiers around.

Joe, what length of history did your world have?

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.

Yeah, I seem to get this too. Sadly, you cannot recruit gazelle...

Don't mess around in those too long, the animals congregate outside the doors (I assume they're trying to get in but can't open the doors) and if you try to leave they curbstomp you. 20 gazelles kicking you at once pretty much turns you into paste.

Yeah they are abandoned.

If you just need soldiers, find a lair in advent mode, retire, build a Dwarf Fort on said lair.

If you abandon the fortress with a lair on your embark site, anybody you had on the fort will still be there and any soldiers on active duty at the time will be recruit able.

I build forts, stockpile tons of weapons and armor and high-value goodies, put every dorf in the militia, train them, and I activate every squad, station them wherever I can find them and then abandon the fortress.

I should note, every dwarf in a fortress abandoned like this will start wherever they were stationed when you abandon and will migrate into whatever areas you had designated as meeting areas. Its kinda neat. Traders and their (recruitible) armed escorts will do the same thing, if you abandon when they are in the depot.

Quick question. Is there a way to tell if a fortress is abandoned?
