If I wanted to recreate the world of one of my favorite stories, I should be able to specify that there is a civilization called Groan, ruled by Earls from a castle called Gormanghast.
You won't have trouble supplying the Countess with cats, or producing the annual idols to be offerred to the castle. Every fortress is a pale reflection of Ghormenghast..

So that's how toady made DF...  but the question is if they're on your side, or are they losing your trust.  Btw is the They might be Giants mod still going because this would make a great addition ;D

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. Maybe someday, but as it stands, the various identity tags/etc. assosciated with living creatures make a workshop-produced creature either flash-freeze to death or just die.

I thought you could sort of make creatures, but they'd appear as items - namely, they'd be vermin sized.  And therefore uncontrollable, and fair game for cats and hungry dwarves.  Which is actually grossly appropriate for a homunculus.

It would make a good story.
