good way to start out

i tried starting the game but all i end up doing is killing trees/bushes and ocasionally an animal just to get stuff that i have no idea what to do with. farthest ive gotten is making pants out of skin but i can even wear them. everything is so complicated so will someone plz describe to me, with overwhelming detail, on how to get a good start and feel to the game?


also on a side note, when i try to use magic it wont let me cast it on anything but myself. if i do that i die, but i cant cancle it. again, as much detail as possible

Welcome to Armok! All there's to this game is blowing up tree's, animal, and making pants out of their skin!

Well don't forget that Toady and Threetoe (plus other developers) basically dropped Armok like a rock, heck inbetween fixes, and picked up the second chapter otherwise known as Dwarf Fortress

Some of us around here DO like blowing up trees...

Also it's what came before Dwarf Fortress.
