Can't say i've ever seen a dwarf wear more than a set of plate+chain jacket. Will have to do more experimenting now :)

Just so you know, the [MAINBLOCK] of armor is how well it protects the torso and [SECONDBLOCK] controls the protection of bodyparts it reaches to, the arms and legs. There's some other tags which determine how far the armor reaches.

this is verified?  you're talking to me like i'm an idiot.  can you tell me exactly how the armor mechanism works?
He's not talking to you like you're an idiot...though to be honest my opinion on your intelligence isn't that great, following what I've seen in this thread. What has already been explained quite clearly to you is pretty much all you're going to get. If you want exact numbers and functions, you'd have to deal with the Toad. Anything we know you can probably work out for yourself (eventually ::)) by examining the raws. The more layers a dwarf has on, the more protection or [BLOCKPOWER] they have (though if you actually look in the raws, you'd find that body armour has [MAINBLOCK] and [SECONDBLOCK] rather than the [BLOCKPOWER] that's used for other items)
Hey no need to be so hard on him what's wrong with asking how the mechanics actually work? I don't think I'm alone in finding things like weapon damage and block power kind of arbitrary, especially with the body part system of DF. Ok, so the battle axe does 110 damage...how does that translate to damage done to a goblin? When I go from regular leather to masterwork iron plate, i know that's an increase in numbers, but how many fewer red injuries does that mean practically?
