Helping Bronze Colossi survive worldgen.
« on: February 18, 2009, 10:56:36 am »

I've been tinkering with strengthening my megabeasts, mostly just by increasing size, damblock, and damage (I'm a modding noob). Currently my dragon and hydra are size 50 with damblock 5 and 7, respectively, and my bronze colossus is size 40 with damblock 11. (Replaced titan with experimental custom creature). My worldgen stops at 175 years, and I've run quite a few to see how the megas hold up.

The problem: The survival rate of my dragons and hydras is much higher than that of my bronze colossi, and I'm not sure why. This was true even when their sizes were more similar, before later increases. Is it perhaps due to sever_on_break, rendering colossi unable to recover from tough encounters? (Note: I'm running these worldgens with orc mod).

I think that was the best guess last time this came up, yeah.

I think it is this, yes. My forest ancients tend not to survive much either, and they have sever on break as well.

More size will counter-act it.

These days when I generate a world I tend to make my megabeast sizes ridiculously huge (500-100). It's very good for their survival (though maybe not so good for the rest of the world XD ). Then I just change it back before I begin playing.

Bronze Colossi have the severonbreaks tag?  But they're made of a malleable material!  That shouldn't work!

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

There's always atom smashing...

except that there never IS atom smashing because it's so cheap, you know? Maybe weapon traps would work, or maybe if you had about 40 marksdwarves...

Or both...

Or magma...

Or you could cage it...

Or if you've already caged something else (thats size 1000) you could watch them go head-to-head and finish off the winner...

There's LOTS of dwarvenly possible ways to kill a 1,000 size monster! Just, none of them involve being anywhere near it.
