Ah I hope soon... a meandering between the two play modes Would be nice eventually.

I always figured it might be cool pulling a Suikoden, claiming a patch of land or an abandoned settlement and working it with the people following your adventurer.  Character interaction AND that.. sheer awesome o.o

Hush, you.  The worst we're doing is offering, in the case of the above, 'I think I heard it'll be possible sometime', or just bumping your question - in my case, at the expense of my own.  Complain if your topic gets swallowed by it, not if you get a couple of harmless bumps from people enthusiastic to hear an answer as well, with relevant thoughts attached.  We're hardly flaming you or dragging the thread off topic.

EDIT (to avoid aforementioned swampage): RE below: S'okay XD

I just really like the thought of going to a mountain as a lone dwarf, digging myself a home, and just sorta living there and making it better. With the occasional guest.

Yeah, it's a cool idea.  These features are coming up in the near future, sometime AFTER the next release:

Quote
I: Ways to obtain food while traveling (hunt/gather) (part of Core84)
II.A: Processing of corpses for more than meat (part of Core86)
II.B.1: Ability to chop down trees and dig (part of Core85)
II.B.2: Way to build shelter/home and ability to save it as a permanent site (part of Core85)

Those items are part of the larger Adventurer Skills Arc, which aims for a "solo fortress" experience that includes everything you're describing and more:

Quote
ADVENTURER SKILLS ARC: It's nice to have all those jobs and professions sitting around in the dwarf mode. The adventurer should be able to do these things, especially those skills related to survival in the wilderness. Eventually you'll be able to place constructions, create a home and have your own site on the map. Related to Core84, Core85, Core86, Req32, Req34, Req99, Req107, Req168, Req236, Req302, Req327, Req491, Bloat160, Bloat317, Bloat380, PowerGoal9, PowerGoal15 and PowerGoal103.
